The Old Oak

Hummery: The Old Oak - made of strong stuff, rather like the cider behind the bar. This bastion of Englishness welcomed us with battalions of chips, flagons of ale, and a side room to ourselves. Possibly a bit modern for some tastes, but then ‘The Slightly Newer Oak’ would sound a bit daft, wouldn’t it?

Overheard on the hash (17th February 2016)

“Was that a skip there Nikki?!” “Yes, I don’t know why I did that….maybe I’m pleased to just be out running?” [Nikki displays worrying amounts of enthusiasm at the start of the hash] “Now I’m sure that was a little leap there!” “No, just clearing a fallen branch…..” [Nikki continues her jaunty hash] “Was that a gambol?” “I did do ballet when I was younger you know….perhaps I’m just naturally springy?!”

Oh Simon….Simon….you’ve missed a branch back here”  Simon breaks off from the serious job of path clearing  “What do you think I am?” “Well, dressed like that, a bin man?” Reply unheard as Simon flounced off up the path

“Well that’s got to go down as one of the muddiest hashes of the year” Aaron conducts the hash post-mortem in the pub. “Erm, Aaron, you weren’t here for Kev’s Stokenchurch ‘Hash of Doom’ were you?”  “No, why?”  “Well if you had been, I think you might have reappraised your definition of ‘muddy’….and ‘long’. Put it this way, when Ken says ‘Sod this, I’m off up the road’, you know it’s been tough, muddy hash!” The 2 Matts put the record straight!

“When’s the Berkshire Murder Mystery Weekend Hash then Roz?”  A simple question from a fellow hasher “How the ‘ell should I know?”  “Well, I thought you were helping to organise it?”  “So what! Matt, look it up for me on your phone, now!” Any questions as to ‘who wears the trousers’ are swiftly answered.

None observed - Roger behaved himself rather well this week. Although maybe that’s because he was too busy concentrating on the map, given the hare had conjured up some sort of ‘6 months pregnant’ excuse to get out of going long?
