Hash Write Up – 2nd Draft
Our valiant heroes Sooper and Simon had spent the afternoon dotting blobs of a strange and mysterious white powder around the Buckinghamshire countryside. After their labours they retreated to the local inn for refreshment. Sooper took out his sooper dooper very flash and fancy mobile phone and checked the weather forecast. "No rain today" he said grinning at Simon. They mounted their two-wheeled steeds and pedalled away. A big drip of rain fell heavily from the sky (where else would it come from??) and landed on Sooper's head, quickly followed by another and another. Oh dear! Our two heroes were soaked by the time they arrived home.
Some 30 or so expectant and slight crazed hashers with bizarre names such as Helles Belles, Roger, and Moist gathered in the car park. They gathered into a close-knit circle, Sooper whispered the magical numbers 6.5 and 3.2 and the hashers started running. They ran straight down the Marlow Road, all apart from Jonesy that is, who had overdone it in the gym and wouldn't be running so much this week. They turned right at Fern Lane to a small abandoned chapel. Steady grinned as the gravestones glinted in the moonlight. Fortunately the local children were already fast asleep in their beds.
Along by Sheepridge Lane they pounded, then left into fields where the group spread out, stooping low to study the firm ground. "I can't see any" moaned Hawk Eye. "I'm sure there's some round here somewhere" enthused Sarah. "REGROUP, REGROUP!" screamed Sooper "We need to send some back to the pub." They split into two groups. Tash gave Dashwood a parting kiss then headed off after the Mexican across the road and into the moonset.
"I still can't see any" muttered Audra searching expeditiously. "This way" shouted Ron, as Doormat late as ever, caught up with the group. "I'm not going if there are cows" asseverated Chicken as they headed up a slight incline towards Bloom Wood. The lights of Marlow twinkling softly to the left, the deep dark wood to the right, as the mist rose slowly off the wet grass, frostily in the moonlight. "It's really very scenic" encouraged Sooper as their spirits began to flag. "Especially in the daylight" interjected Simon helpfully. A few of the group started walking, they weren't used to this. It was usually 'over' by now, unless it was a Keyboard Ken one that is (so named after his superb harmonica-playing skills). The indefatigable Crazy and Pandy (aka Hash Tick) raced Ant for the on-backs (a sadistic ritual interjected by IGSH who was having a sicky).
Suddenly out of nowhere they were back at the junction of Sheepridge Lane, where they had lost the likes of Maggie and Judy. They headed left in the direction of Flackwell Heath past some farmhouses, across another field and into more woods. "ON BACK, ON BACK" howled Sooper "We need to go right". "I've got it" yelled Helles "Follow me!" Panting and puffing, they scuttled along through the woods, rustling the fallen leaves with their feet. Sooper was right, it really was very scenic and the conditions were really very good. The Sooper Heroes had done a grand job.
Back on solid ground they were able to pick up the pace, and in no time at all they were ensconced in the Black Lion. After much orating by Dodger, a naked golden statue was handed to Dan for his contribution to the Maltese economy, and a t-shirt inscribed with words of wit and wisdom to Frankenfurter for the achievement of 150 (runs - jogging not cricket). There then occurred an event so rare, that our adventurers cannot recall a previous occurrence! Bowl after bowl of chips issued forth from the kitchen. Steaming hot with ketchup and mayonnaise to garnish, and even though the tired hashers ate and ate till they were full to burst, there were still chips left in the bowls! (It is pure conjecture that this rare phenomenon is in any way related to the absence of Mikethechipeater).
