The Britannia
The Britannia - Marlow
Hummery: The unholy love-child of an American diner and a Swedish sauna ,The Britannia could be regarded as an acquired taste, especially for traditional pub lovers. However, good beer and prompt service is always to be applauded, though not by the canine elements of the hash - 2 legs good, 4 legs bad!
Overheard on the hash (8th December 2015)
“Nah, not too great actually - there was blood coming out from….” [Jo’s enquiry as to Helen’s well-being post her Thai holiday elicits a rather graphic response from Aaron]
“Nice haircut Barney - did they charge you?” “She was a very nice girl” “Was she boss-eyed and wearing L-plates?” [The hash quizzes Barney on his new haircut]
“Ah, now I’ve found a great place to get my haircut - South Farnham” “Don’t you mean Slough?” “Hmm…it’s very cheap though” “But as you live in Amersham, doesn’t it cost you more to get there?” “Not if I go by bus….although it does take me all weekend….great Polish shop nearby though” [Matt & the hash quiz Mike on his impending haircut]
“Hali-but - that’s what I buy there. And sugared almonds. Great for breakfast” “Remind me never to come round for your breakfast at your place….”
“Rather than flour, how about laying a sugared almond trail?…..would get bloody expensive though….” [Mike moots the idea of a ‘Fairy Tale’ Hash]
“Don’t lean back Jo….otherwise you might become a flaming red-head” [Jo flirts with death in front of the Fire Pit….which turned out to be almost stone cold]
“I’ve never taught a nice Joshua, so that name’s not top of my list” [Playing ‘The Name Game’ with Sarah hits a few snags]
“There was once a girl in our school called Snow White. They’d even hyphenated her name to Snow-white. Oh, and she was black as well. So that was a bit weird.” [More no-go areas from ‘The Name Game’]
“Have you ever seen pictures of crabs on somebody’s eyebrows? Here, have a look at these…” “Wow, that looks like a huge crab - how did that ever fit on somebody’s eyebrow?” “Ah no, that’s actually a real hermit crab…I don’t know how that got there” [Jess’s upcoming slide show for her sexual health sermon to teenagers hits a few early snags]
“Anyone know what this powder in Marlow Bottom woods is? [Sooper causes a Twitter storm in response to pictures of strange flour symbols on Twitter from a concerned member of the public]
“Witches - what else?” “Thank goodness for that. I was worried it may be the work of fairies!” “Ha ha, it’s just a running group” “Yep, we had #hash run this evening from Marlow” “Mostly though, I’m just pleased to have been able to use the #hash hash tag!”[The Twitterati light up the internet with their discussion as to the flour symbols, with Sooper having the final word - aka ‘Hardly shepherd’ ?!]
